Al-Futtaim National Skills Contest 2014

Each year, the Al-Futtaim Group, one of the most respected corporations in the lower Gulf region and consisting of over 40 companies, holds a competition for all its technical staff. This National Skills Contest is called AFM skills and is one of the biggest corporate events of the year. The contest involves each employee showing off their skills through different exercises which test their knowledge in their particular field of operation, the ultimate objective being to identify a winner in each contest category to represent the UAE at the final showdown contest in Japan.

As with the previous year, Pico was selected by Al-Futtaim to provide the design, fabrication and set up of the event activities and main stage along with event and stage management with the goal of providing a fun and atmospheric environment for 2,000 staff and their family members. At 10,000 sq. m., the enormous warehouse venue provided plenty of space for a myriad of skills contests and family-friendly games, as well as roaming talent and entertainment.

Given the large space, the challenge was to shape the event in such a way that everything looked unified and proportionate to the space. In large areas like this, it can be easy for structures and branding elements to get ‘lost’, but the Pico team managed to create a dominant, balanced presence that made everything look grouped and in the correct place, delivering an event worthy of this high-profile group.
