ANZ Bank at the Shanghai Rolex Masters

Pico has been delivering sponsorship activities for ANZ Bank since 2012. At the Shanghai Rolex Masters tennis tournament, we provided event management and creative planning services to promote junior tennis in China while simultaneously delivering successful brand promotion activities for ANZ Bank during the tournament.

As a Diamond Sponsor of the tournament, Pico helped ANZ Bank activate a series of engagement activities at their ANZ World Pavilion at the Shanghai Qizhong Tennis Centre.

Of great interest to visitors were the pavilion’s games, including the motion sensing game “Advantage You”, designed and produced by Pico teams which used a virtual coach to guide would-be tennis players. Participants played tennis guided by this virtual coach and a live coach on site. This game was a particular challenge for our designers, as the motion sensor was affected by strong sunlight in the outdoor pavilion. Our teams had to adjust both the booth design and game processes to optimise the gameplay. We also put together an online registration form for this game, collecting over 4,500 leads over the course of the tournament.

Marin Cilic, the Bryans brothers, Mikhail Youzhny and other famous tennis players participated in the “ANZ Smash Shots” motion sensing gaming. For each target that these players hit, 10,000 Yuan was donated to the “ANZ Junior Tennis” programme, with a total of 230,000 Yuan raised. A tennis training camp was also organised on press day, and 200 students from the ANZ Junior Tennis programme received professional tennis training while over 30 media visitors looked on.

Thanks to the synergies created with the tournament and the sport of tennis itself, the pavilion was a huge success and was one of the most popular pavilions at the tournament. On the first day of the tournament, 1,000 visitors to the pavilion were recorded, with over 10,000 visitors in total over the course of the nine-day event.

Our long-term relationship with the event organiser meant that we were able to problem-solve, liaise with the venue and other parties and deliver everything to the client faster and more effectively, which was highly appreciated.
