Produced and managed by Pico, the inaugural Mara’ee - Bahrain Animal Production Show 2010 was such a success that the Bahrain Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning asked us to do it again this year. The difference was that the Mara‘ee 2012 show was to be even bigger and better than the last one.
Spread over an enormous 100,000 sq. m. at the Bahrain International Endurance Village, the six-day long event featured a cornucopia of activities, shows and displays designed to delight, amaze and attract as many visitors as possible.
Designing, producing and event-managing this massive, multifaceted event was an enormous undertaking. The show had to have something for everyone - and it did! From the Royal Opening Ceremony, featuring a live equestrian performance from Spain and a specially produced operetta with a cast of over 300 performing before the Royal Family; to the 1,800 sq. m. bird display, to the three-day 5,000 sq.m. Trade Exhibition and the many educational initiatives for kids - including the ‘Animal Boulevard’, The Sea of Bahrain, Rainforest Adventure Maze and the Mad Science Lab; to the showcase of live farm animals and the farmers’ souq (market).
An event this size always has inherent challenges. Unique hurdles faced in this particular show included erratic weather conditions at the open-air event site which caused damage to some structures and an unreliable power supply. But with creative, lateral thinking and solid teamwork, the show opened on time.
In the end, the 2012 show was an exceptional success and exceeded all targets - attracting over 200,000 visitors in total.
“Every aspect of the festival has exceeded expectations. It has been a huge undertaking and we are proud of the support received, with so many people travelling out to visit and take part in all the different activities.” – H.E. Dr.Juma Al Kaabi, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning
“Just three days in and we’ve already had more visitors than the entire 2010 show - Mara’ee is becoming a tradition and by the end of the event we hope to have established it as one of the most popular days out for Bahraini families.” - Mr. Ahmed Almadani, Event General Coordinator
“We brought in specialists from around the world to help present this understanding and knowledge and it has been very successful. For families, Mara’ee has been one of the most popular exhibitions we’ve ever had in Bahrain. The response from parents has been amazing, they have really taken advantage of all the different areas and activities, learning with their kids and taking joy in the time together.” - Dr. Nabeel Mohamed Abu Alfatih, Undersecretary of Ministry of Municipalities and Urban Planning and head of the Mara’ee Organising Committee
