The annual Xian Buddhism Culture Expo was held for the second time in 2015. Organised in association with the Shangxi Buddhism Association and aiming to promote Buddhism culture and related industries by leveraging on the 2,000 year history of Xian as a Buddhism cultural hub in China, the Expo was 30 per cent larger than last year’s event and became a significant Buddhism cultural exhibition in western China in just two years. Besides exhibitors and visitors from mainland China, the Expo also attracted participants from the region, including Bhutan, Nepal, Taiwan, Thailand, India, Hong Kong and Macau.
Pico provided design, build, project and venue management services for the Expo, held at the Xian Greenland Pico International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Much preparation work had to be conducted with local religious leaders and the relevant government bodies. The team had to be careful regarding sensitive regulations around religious functions, and balance this with the needs of thousands of Buddhists and vendors at the event. Besides the exhibition element, other programmes included seminars, calligraphy demonstrations, tea ceremonies and other Buddhism-related activities, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in Buddhist culture. With over 400 booths and almost 23,000 visitors, the event was an important platform for local and overseas exhibitors, allowing them to meet buyers from the region. Some of these exhibitors have already booked space for next year’s event and are asking for more space – an encouraging result for the Expo and for Pico.
