Pico had another Olympic-sized project to accomplish this summer in the UK - bringing to life P&G’s creative vision via Landor Associates at Vinopolis in East London. Before the Olympics, this converted viaduct was a wine museum; but for the duration of the games it was to be transformed into the Procter and Gamble Family Home for Team USA and teams from around the world.
Divided into themed zones, including ‘Cityscape’, ‘Homescape’ and ‘Parkscape’, this home away from home had one very unusual feature: security arrangements meant that Team USA could not have any contact with teams from the rest of the world, and thus every sector had to be duplicated at the venue!
Inside, live TV feed of the Games was broadcast around the home, while special hospitality and entertainment events were held throughout the duration of the Olympics. Pico teams designed and fabricated the specialist theatrical lighting and trusses, and handled most of the audio visual elements. In all this was a demanding and exciting project; this incredible makeover was completed in a mere 14 days.
Pico was a big part of the action elsewhere at the Olympics, designing and fabricating the incredible ACER Pavilion inside Olympic Park and five ACER Internet Lounges at Athletes’ Villages, as well as the interior fit-out and graphics for the Olympic broadcasting studios of China’s CCTV and Japan’s TV Asahi.
