Shimano Inc., the world-famous Japanese bicycle manufacturer, was established in 1921. In 1973, the company began its longstanding relationship with Singapore, establishing its first factory outside Japan, which today is a fully-fledged manufacturing plant which conducts R&D, product design and engineering and much more.
Built and project managed by Pico, the Shimano Cycling World Gallery celebrates this relationship, but is much more than a showcase of bicycles. This experiential centre aims to enrich and develop the local cycling culture, promote cycling as a lifestyle in Singapore and heighten awareness about the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of cycling.
The designer at Eight Inc., has high expectations and insistence on only the best-quality materials meant that many parts and materials had to be ordered from overseas. Given the tight project timeline, this presented a unique challenge, but one that our team overcame with ease. This resulted not only in a satisfied client, but a Silver Award at the Spark Experience Awards.
“Despite numerous challenges faced such as a short lead time and working in a new area with limited workflow procedures available, the team managed to come together and build a quality space which followed closely with the design intent.” - Eugene Koh, Assistant Director of Shimano (Singapore) Pte Ltd.
