The Singapore Garden Festival (SGF) is one of the premier garden shows on the international horticultural calendar and the world’s top tropical horticultural show. Only designers who have won awards at other renowned garden and flower shows are invited to exhibit at SGF, making it the first such show in the world to provide an international platform where the ‘best of the best’ compete for garden glory.

A biennial event inaugurated in 2006, this fifth edition of the festival was held over nine days in mid-August at a new location – The Meadow at Gardens by the Bay.

Providing design, fabrication, project management and a host of other services, Pico’s experts went all out to fulfill this prestigious event’s numerous objectives, among them showcasing Singapore’s greening efforts in the international arena; establishing Singapore as a centre for horticultural excellence; and encouraging greater community appreciation and participation to make Singapore a ‘City in a Garden’.

Bringing the festival to life was our ambitious and enchanting visual and thematic concept – ‘a Circus in a Garden’, which combined the vibrant panorama of a circus with the mysterious beauty of a fantasy garden. This theme highlighted and played off whimsical elements in the SGF’s key attractions, including the Best of Show Designer Gardens, featuring gardens by the top local and international award-winning designers; Floral Windows on the World – a showcase of colourful and creative cut flower displays by celebrated floral designers; the Orchid Show, which showcased the most important plant group in the international floriculture industry; and the Garden Fiesta, which offered educational, recreational and entertainment activities ranging from performances to floral arrangement demonstrations catering to the public, families, serious gardeners and hobbyists.

The new venue presented some operational challenges, since it had a larger outdoor area as compared to previous shows. This exposed the show – and our teams – to the elements and the erratic summer weather patterns.

Despite these complications, Pico delivered the entire event on time, meeting and exceeding client expectations. SGF 2014 was awarded the prestigious 2014 International Garden Tourism – Achievement of the Year Award and we are proud to have played a part in helping the organising team clinched the accolade.
