2023 ZGC Forum’s exhibition

The Zhongguancun Forum’s exhibition, is an international platform for scientific and technological innovation held in Beijing. As well as showcasing cutting-edge R&D achievements, the Forum encourages communication and enables top scientists and innovators to connect with entrepreneurs.

Themed ‘Open Collaboration, Share the Future’, the exhibition was held from May 25 to 30, with more than 650 exhibitors focusing on the latest developments in fields such as information technology, green solutions, advanced manufacturing, healthcare and medicine.

Pico was entrusted to provide comprehensive service support for the ‘Cutting-edge Technology and Future Industry Exhibition’ ranging from event planning and management to design, construction and on-site services. The team also used digital technologies such as AI virtual guides, AR navigation and photography to make the event more immersive for offline and online visitors alike.

Insight

To highlight the theme, the project team used digital technology for certain aspects of the Forum’s exhibition. Notably, AR navigation services and AR photography experiences allowed visitors to immerse themselves in interactive technology whilst viewing various exhibits. Further accentuating the event’s high-tech nature – and making it as immersive online as it was offline – was an online VR exhibition hall complete with AI virtual guides.

Solution

Immersive AR exhibition navigation
Cutting-edge tech such as 3D modelling, spatial positioning and visual recognition made the AR navigation more accurate and intuitive. By simply entering their destination into an app, visitors were instantly directed to the relevant exhibition area. The system could also plan the most efficient route for visiting multiple destinations. To make the experience even more engaging, visitors also had the option of following a trail of AR checkpoints for a ‘tour’ of the exhibition’s most interesting perspectives.

AR photography app
Designed by the project team, a decorative AR installation in the venue’s lobby encouraged visitors to enjoy the Forum while simultaneously showcasing its theme. A special AR photography app enabled visitors to snap photos and enhance them with cosmos-themed virtual effects.

Online VR exhibition hall with AI tour guide
Complementing the on-site activations, an online VR exhibition hall brought the exhibition experience to those who could not attend in person. Pico used AI technology to convert exhibition content from text into lively explanations given by the hall’s AI virtual guides. Also available in the VR hall was a guided tour, as well as a convenient search function that enabled visitors to find specific content quickly and accurately.

Results

The many high-tech elements integrated into the Forum contributed to its overall success, with the event drawing nearly 80,000 visitors over its five-day duration.
